Karya Karayalcin is born and raised in Ankara, Turkey. After passionately working to become a fashion designer from her early teen years, she has studied Fashion Design (BFA) in Parsons School of Design in New York. In Spring 2018, she studied abroad in Parsons Paris, France for a semester while interning at LANVIN. She has recently graduated from and is actively seeking a design position.
Her background in art and design provides a strong foundation for her fashion studies in which she is seeking to blur the semi-rigid line between art and fashion design by using unconventional materials and contextualizing garments into a cohesive concept. Most recently, she is exploring the combination of knit with unconventional materials, such as rope and webbing while creating seamless pieces.
Karya has interned in various companies and is regularly helping in non-profit organizations, one that she co-founded. She is also fluent in English and Turkish with a B1 level certificate in French. She is currently living in New York, USA.
